I have a 2002 v-6 5vzfe w.47,000 miles, When are you suppost to change the spark plug wires.When have you all changed them. Do you guys know how much factory wires would be? Thanks in advance

I replaced mine late last year at 170k miles!!! lol I bought it used when it had 67k miles so I wasn't sure if they had ever been replaced. I stuck with OEM wires. Contact TOR on this board, I got mine from him. I don't remember the price but it was definitely a good deal.

Thanks 89-4run. Do you or does anyone know when they are suppost to be changed. Is the factory wires the best way to go or should I get something like ngk or something? Thanks to all in advance

I've usually heard that although factory wires are fairly thin, they usually provide the best performance as a replacement (as opposed to something aftermarket).

The factory wires are definately good and what I would use.

A set of wires could last a very long time. You need to check resistance with a multimeter.
If the resistance is above a certain level (specified in the FSM), replace them.

I wouldn't change them until at least 100K, but I would check the resistance (ohms) whenever you change plugs. Expect to pay around $70-$85, but they are nice because they include all brackets, etc aready mounted to wires. They are even date coded so there is no mystery. Change cap & rotor at the same time.
Prices may differ for your model.

I picked up a new PCV valve, spark plugs and spark plug wires for less then a $100 dealer retail ... it takes two extra seconds to switch out the wires.

I wouldn't change them until you start sensing a problem. It's not like they'll all go out at one time one day. Now if you end up with over 100k miles on them and are preparing for a pretty long cross country excursion you might consider it. My favorite plug wires are NGK. I have no idea if they even make them for the yota or not. I just replaced my plugs for the first time at about 90K miles and figure they really didn't even need that. I plan to run the wires for quite a while longer.

I've got 160,000 miles and 20 years on my plug wires. They're still going strong.

i believe the resistance is above 20,000 Ohms for replacement on that engine
