spark plug removal ?
I've been on here sporadically, mostly as an observer an a few questions. here's another ?. I have an 01 Tacoma v6 that I want to tune up. I'm plenty competent but don't have any experience with the aluminum head spark plug removal. I've heard many bad outcomes of do it urselfers stripping and breaking plugs. Should I try it or leave it to a shop. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I think there the original plugs. thanks matt

A little PB Blaster shot down each plug before trying to remove them may help if they are tight.
Don't force 'em if they start to bind, instead tighten slightly, and then try back out a bit more.
Take it slow and easy and you should be fine. I'm in the anti-seize camp for the new plug threads before reinstalling. Along with dielectric on the inside of the plug boots.
You might consider changing the spark plug wires too. Use only Toyota parts from the dealer, or Denso, or NGK.....these rigs don't like other brands for electrical components.

i've done plenty of tune ups on the 3.4's and have yet to have a problem of one breaking upon removal, even on high milage and age plugs. replacing the plug wires while your in there should be done as well especially if its all original. and denso parts are the way to go.

plugs/wires were no problem, but used all ngk parts because Denso wern't readily available. PB blasted the fuel filter, goin to spray it again a few times an replace it in the next few days. hope this gets my mileage back up. For some reason it's dropped 2/3 mpg. thanks for the replies. Matt
