Spare tire mounting on roof rack

hey guys, i was wanting to mount my spare on my surco safari rack but dont know what to use to strap it down. I know they make brackets for roof racks but have never seen em for a surco rack. So if anyone could show me how they put theirs on their rack or if they have seen mounting brackets please show me. Thanks.

There are some made for the surco rack. I know Performance products has em...

I saved money and just got the spider-net accessorty and kept it down with that. The tire rarely moved at all since it is rubber and all. People say its not safe...well that spider-net is damn strong, and the tire is damn heavy. You are going to have to hit a REAL big jump to get it pop out of the rack...but you have the spider net keeping it in I was a big fan of it and ran it that way for 2+ years. The only time I noticed it move was if I came to a screeching hault. It probably not a good idea to do some serious wheeling where the thought of rolling comes to mind...but you shouldnt have the tired on your roof in the first place if htat is the case.

Make a net or an attachment? Im sure you can make an attachment...Id start a Long bolt, couple thick sheets of metal, and a wing nut. Bend one peice of metal to form around and be able to LOCK down the tire (by using the wheel lug nut holes). Bend the other to lock to the underside of your roof rack. Then connect the two with the bolt (or two) witht he tire in teh middle. Got the idea?

NOTE: I am not responsible for this design and have never tried it. THis is just where I would START and go from there.

Honestly, $33 was well worth it for the spider net. You can strap anything down on it. Check out this picture...the net stretched over this pretty big load. I wasnt sure how strong the net was, so I added straps...but the more I used it, I realized that it is pretty damn strong...no need for the straps. I ran just one extra, front to back.

well i put my tire up there. What i ended up doing is drilling 2 holes and putting bolts threw them and then put the bolts threw 2 of the holes in my wheel and bolted it down. It stays up there really well, and looks better 2.

I searched & searched to give you a link to Target.Com showing you the tiedown straps I got for $20. They have quality hooks on each end with a heavy duty metal tie down part that has a quick release. I used two of these on my Con Ferr roof rack. The thirtyfive doesnt budge!

I use 3" wide ratchet tie-downs when I haul my 4wheeler...and the 4wheeler weighs about 650lbs so I'm sure they could handle a measly tire.

You could even use the tie-downs in the a criss-cross pattern to be real careful...they're only about 15 bucks for two at Wal-Mart or a little bit more at Lowe's.
