Soft brake pedal

1995 4Runner 4X4 with a soft brake pedal, but it's only soft on the first push, after that it stiffens up. I took it to brake check and they discovered a minor leak in the rear cylinders. I mean MINOR, especially if they say it's minor. What should I try if that does not cure my ill?

I've had that happen a time or two on various vehicles and it was always a loose wheel bearing. This allows the rotor to push the pads apart farther than normal when cornering, leaving you with the need for an extra pump to close the gap again when you brake. Or, if you feel pulsating the brake pedal or shimmy in the wheel during braking it could be a warped rotor, doing the same thing. Usually a leaky rear wheel cylinder will cause odd things like one rear wheel to lock up even during moderate braking. Scary feeling!

Thanks, I replaced the rear cylinder, cleaned all the parts, and adjusted the rear brakes and everything seems back to normal. Nice truck by the way!!
