Had to put a new battery in the '98 Limited this weekend. After putting in the new battery, I noticed that my radio reception was really poor, just like it was before I had my power antenna replaced. It had just turned cold here, and weather can do funny things to radio signals, so I thought maybe weather was the culprit. However, after a few days, reception was still poor, and the radio in the wife's XTerra was picking up just fine. I opened the wheel well to check the antenna connection, all good there. Finally I thought that battery replacement/poor reception was more than a coincidence, so I disconnected both battery terminals for a few minutes, then reattached, and bingo! good reception. Problem solved. Anybody ever hear of this before?

Yeah, I am glad that I figured it out. It was really bugging me to not have most of my radio stations. Gotta be able to hear the sports talk during football season.

Naah, the local sports call in show is really good, and runs for three hours each afternoon. I listen on my way home from work every day. My local college team is Auburn. Lots to talk about this year

You will hate me if I am right. It is possible that, for some reason, kids or punching buttons in the dark, someone may have turned off the DX or distant stations mode, and put it in local or city mode that attenuates strong stations and filters out weak ones for driving in cities close to the transmitters. Killing the power may have cleared the settings back to default which is usually DX on. Worst is if your antenna problem could have been fixed with a button push. This is the only thing I can think of that fits the facts.
