I don't have the Sporster 5, but I did check out the size of it online. It's comparable to my XM receiver. I have mine mounted in/on the ashtray. I don't smoke, so it was a perfect location. Out of the way. You can find a good way to secure it, use your imagination. I have my base held in place w/ a rubberband...I know....it was a quick job before a road trip...but it stays in place. I'll do a more permanant job when spring rolls around.

I stuck mine on the windshield with the suction cup bracket. You can run the wires through the defrost vents for a cleaner install. It's easy to see, easy to remove from the dock and is fairly low profile if you adjust the bracket to get it to sit pretty much on the dash.

Post a pic of the area around the dash. I'll get my creative juices flowing then.

Here is a teaser that I have handy...

You can barley see it, but that is the key to mounting it there. I does obstruct my view just a little, but no big deal.

Did it come with the hook attachments for the top heater/ac vent (the ones above the radio)? I've got my starmate 4 attached there and it seems to work out well. You can plug in the unit below into the cigarette lighter and run all the wires under the molding. The antenna is another story; I've heard different ideas, but I ended up running it out the back above the hatch where it is barley visible behind my wind visor in the rear. Good luck with that.

I'm looking at a sirius 5 myself. Thinking of running the antenna over the top of the headliner and out under the third brake light mounting the antenna to the top of the it for an almost total stealth install. Or I might cut out part of the doghouse and inset the thing for complete stealth. I need info on this though... does anybody know if the antenna needs to be mounted completely exposed on the metal surface or can it sit partially obscured from the side by another layer of plastic?

Aviator, your antenna may or may not work in that scenario. I tried a couple of mounting positions for my antenna and found the best way to test it was to turn on the unit and see what kind of signal you're getting. Although it would be pretty cold to integrate it into your "doghouse".

that's true!

i have a manual transmission and used Velcro to attach the unit between the two cup tray and the transmission stick. hope that makes sense.

btw, purchase the "industrial velcro" at home depot.

i ended up using the vent mount and shutting it in my ashtray, then i ran my antenna under my dash up to the dash board

the unit itself moves just a little, but i think a zip tie can fix that

I ran my antenna wire along the driver windshield post, along the plastic molding all the way to the rear and out through the hatch and plunked it right there on the roof. Works great.

The antenna then tucks alon the side of the dash on the driver side, down into the kick panel, then along underneath the end of the carpet behind the pedals and then into the center console, up along the woodgrain molding.

Took me minutes to do and it's clean.

Not really liking the mount on the center vent, and I really don't want it on the windshield. So I need a more permanent fixture.
