Should I get new shocks during the other mods?
Hi fellas. Hopefully next Friday I'm going to start installing my RB Rocksliderz, RB 3" body lift, the Cornfed 3" lift, Super Swampers, and Mickey Thompon Classics. The question I have is while I"m getting all of this done would you guys get your shocks replaced to just to get it taken care of while the rest of it is? Also if you did what are your recommendations for shocks, etc. Thanks it advance, any help is always appreciated.

shocks should not be giving any kind of lift... the point of shocks is to dampen suspension travel so the contant movement doesnt jar the fillings out of your teeth....
personally, i wait on the shocks until after your other mods are completed. then you can accurately cycle your suspension and see what will be the best length of shocks suited to your vehicle.... i can tell you right now that if you get stock sized shocks you might overcompress and cuase damage and severly limit downtravel

On 3rd gen Runners the rear shocks are a real pain to get at to change out. However, it is a bunch easier to get at them with the rear coil springs out. So I would do them now. Especially if you don't plan on doing any additional lifting. OME's are oustanding and I highly recommend them. Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

I recommend OME shocks as well...Get the HD shocks, not the comfort version. The comforts are actually softer than stock.
It's easiest to change the rear shocks after the body lift, as you can get to the top nut MUCH easier!

Ok. I'm sure this is a really stupid question, but, when I get the ome's do I need to get the springs? If I do would that add additional lift onto what I am already getting from the Cornfed's and the RB body kit? Thanks again fellas.

No you dont need the springs.
Iw ould definetly wait till you get the shocks and then do your lift at the same time.
Since you'll be taking apart the front strut anyways, it will be a lot easier to only do it once and put the new shocks while your at it.

It seems like you're willing to spend some money on this. Have you looked into other options like the TRD Tundra Front Lift? Or bling coilovers? Personally, I'd definatelly get new coils for the rear (without spacers)..it'll sitffen things up so you dont bottom out, plus it increases your cargo capacity.
Search for "TRD front".

Everyone here is correct in telling you that it's best to determine the finishing height of the components that you're installing to find out what sort of shock length that you'll need (abena), yet changing the shocks out is easiest during the swapping out of suspension components (ec, gap, Paul and SC).
It would probally be best for you to talk to the suspension suppliers about what you can expect the full height of the lift to be and perhaps find out what shock length that they would recommend.
While you're on the horn with them, I'd also find out if the lift has "dropdown" brackets included as extending the suspension components will eventually end up "binding" alot of your driveline that could lead to alot of needless, sometimes very expensive, repairs.
And yes, coils will increase the lift depending on which ones you end up getting.
Hope this helps.

Hey thanks again ya'll for all the info. I'll be honest. I wish I was more technically skilled when it comes to the terminology and the pros and cons of doing all of this. So it's really nice to have you guys here who have seen it, done it, or know about it
