Should i buy this 4runner?

Well i went and looked at option 3 today... from my other thread

I am in love with it

it's a 4x4 AND HAS A REAR FACTORY LOCKER. I have a feeling i'm gonna have a lot of fun with this!

then it turned bad. we took the wheels off and found the left rear wheel axel leaking. there was diff. fluid all over the brakes and everything. he said he would order parts from toyota and have his machanic install them. he also said if it breaks, come back and he'll have it fixed.

There was one more minor flaw, the control for the bottom seat adjustment on the electric seats for the passanger side was broken, but he said he would replace that before i, or anybody for that matter, bought it.

there were a few minor dings, and the inside of the aftermarket exhaust was rusted up pretty bad. He said he'll go around with me to make a list of all body issues, and he'll have them fixed before i buy it.

the price on this 1996 toyota 4runner 4x4 3.4 V6 with factory locker, 10,000. it has 130k miles on it.

too good to be true? it looked great. VINs matched up all around the car (all doors). Also, CV boots checked out fine. brakes were above 80 percent, brand new practically.

He's going to change the oil (it was clean anyway, but he said he'll change it), check all belts, hoses, and timing before i buy it.

I have pictures of pretty much everything

also, the power of that 3.4 is AMAZING! omg i got in my 3.slow to go home and i'm like comon!!!!!!!!!!!! it's so freakin powerful!!!!!!! w00t!

so, go for it or not?

also, anybody wanna buy my 4runner?

Get it you won't be dissapointed. I bought '97 Limited with the factory rear locker in August of 2002 and have no problems at all. Go for it!

Go for it if you really like it. Sounds like you've done your homework. Locker is a key option if you plan to wheel it and fairly expensive to add to a truck that doesn't come with it.

$15 bucks vs a $10,000 purchase. Hmmmm, seems like a wise investment to me. It stopped me from buying a car I had found (accident).

what would be more worth it, taking off my nerf bars and selling them independently, or selling with the car? (i'm talking about my current car which i'm selling)

Independently

I'd say independently as a pair.

You said aftermarket exhaust? Any other aftermarket parts? Cuz if it has other aftermarket performance parts it probably was run pretty hard. Also you said many owners? Any of those owners located in a place where it snows? If so you might want to check for rust as well. Just remember to check EVERYTHING and not be so focused on one truck, don't get too excited, cuz that's what I did, I ended up with a bad-ass perfect conditioned rig, just not the color I wanted:cry: Oh well.

Just be careful and good luck! This guy is promising to do a lot, hopefully he keeps his word.

The rear axel leak would concern me have them fix it and replace the brakes. This should not take a competant shop more than a couple hours!

The exhaust, well its your exhaust it does not look stainless and it moves Toxic gases, over time it will look like poo.

Congradulations, 5 of my 5 closest friends who live all over the country drive third gen 4runners. Its weird and creepy but I am proud except two are 5spd which makes me jealous.

sounds like a good deal to me. especially if the carfax report is clean and he is willing to fix any problems you find. i bought my 96 4runner for $9500 with less than 125k miles but i had to replace the windshield and front bumper and it was keyed. yet, all those brought the price down from a "firm" $11,500.

It just looks like a stock tailpipe with an aftermarket tip. The tip seems to be the part that is rusted, but the factory tailpipe looks ok. If all else fails, just get a new tailpipe, it can't be more than $25..

Get the axle seal fixed and new brakes. Otherwise, it sounds like a good deal!
