Red face Should a buy a 99 Runner for around 3500 ......

Ok

My best buds 99 4runner no rust 110000 miles auto sr5

One known problem for the reason he is selling it becuase when he is in Drive but at a red light, hes idling then once it goes green he hits the gas and it just revs like its in neutral and goes nowhere so basically the drive doesn't engage right. Could the whole transmission be going

he heard it could be two fluid lines mixing together causing it

please help

and give me your suggestions

Do you have the means to put a new transmission (or rebuilt) in? $3500 isn't too bad, but you'll probably end up spending another $2000 to fix it.

$3500 is sure not a bad price. Why not take it to a dealership and spend the diagnostic money to find out what all is wrong with it? Perhaps they offer a "used car inspection" special.Run the VIN# and see all the preventative maintenance and whether it is has been kept up with.

Cheap insurance and good piece of mind-why, it could save you $3500.

Have any AAMCO Locations near you? I think they claim to give free diagnosis.

If it dosen't go in foward or reverse, torque converter...If it will not move forward from drive,or manual low from a stop..internal trans friction is smoked, clutch, band, sprag, ect.

How does the fluid look?

Remember: Trans. fluid is just like a woman....If its pink and it don't stink, its good.

But do what Ron said before hand just to see how much fixing is needed. If it turns out to be less than 6~7k, it's still a bargain IMO.

If you were interested, you could probably just replace the transmission yourself pretty easily.
