Hey guys,

I need a set of new shocks and I have a choice between Bilsteins, Koni & Tokiko. What I am looking for is a smooth ride. I don't take my truck off-road.

P.S It's 91 4Runner V6 2WD.
P.S.S Oh yeah...I have done a search, but I couldn't find anything specific.

I think the general consensus is that Bilsteins ride hard. Seems like Corey had some Edelbrocks on his a while back and loved the way they worked at that time.

I have Gabriels and they're comin' off as soon as I replace the rear springs.

I have no experience with Tokico, but I've heard that the factory shocks were Tokicos.

See, I never had the "pleasure" of driving the truck on the original (working) shocks. WHen I got my rig, it had original shocks with 90K miles on them.

Let me know what you think about the stock (original) shocks??? And explain why, if you can!!!

Ha, my original shocks have 129k on them, and there's people with a lot more miles on theres... I think... Anyway, in the ricer world, I remember Tokico's making pretty good shocks but that is a completely different enviorment and application. Sorry I wasn't much help but that was my .00002 cents

The original shocks would have a plusher ride, because they were beginning to understand that soccer moms were their target market. The shocks would have had a fairly small diameter and would have worn out fairly quick trying to control the motion of a 4,000 lb vehicle. I'm sure the Tokico gas are a much better shock than stock. I've also like KYB's on some cars in my past. You might be better describing what you want to a factory rep using their 800-548-2549 service number.

None of us have any experience with Tokico, although, their website info on the Trekmaster is interesting. If you do get them, post back and let us know how you like them.

I swapped out my oem shocks at 25k after they ruined my tires. I replaced them with rancho 5000 and there still going strong after 125k miles. I do some offroading/trailriding nothing to xtreme. the street ride is a little stiffer than stock.

Hehe I think I have all of you beat, my stock shocks had 250,000 on them before I replaced them! LOL I went with the Monroe Reflex model from Napa. I like them, but I guess that anything is better then worn out stockers!

How do Monroe shocks perform?? How comfortable is the ride?? How much do they cost???

WHy are you selling them??? How many miles are on them??? What is your reserved price? How was the ride when you had them installed?

I beg to differ. They self adjust and become hard when need be. For highway driving they are the smoothest shock I have ever riden on. I had stock and they were way to soft. I had Koni and they never did anything for me. Manroe is just a good average shock. But since you never go off road I would highly suggest bilsteins. They are excelent on road and off.

And what is the difference between Sensa-Trac & Reflex???

My taco will be getting sensatracs for sure. Ive used them on every vehicle since high school Ive had to replace the shocks or struts on and they ride good.

i dont know where you go to buy shocks... but the sensatracs which are monroes best shocks run $40 each near me... the price on that auction says $225 new! ~ i dont think so

the reflex are good if you offroad a lot, but are also good for everyday driving.... the sensatracs are good for everyday driving with occasional offroad

Yeah, I priced em for my taco. $64 each for the front and $40 each for the rear.
