Bought my '01 at 38K Toyota Certified, and now I take it in for a checkup at 46K and they tell me the coil overs are leaking. The guy (took it here: www.johns4x4.com, they're AAA certified) told me that I COULD go another 10K on them, but I'd start to notice noise and handling stuff - so far, I don't. I also don't really have the scratch to throw around. They quoted me $159 per pair for Rancho 5000 rears, and $79 per pair for the fronts (or maybe I have that backwards!), plus $223.78 for labor. I WOULD love a new set of shocks just to improve the stock ride, but...well...should I wait and let them, leak some more? Should I replace them now? Should I replace them with something else? Am I getting screwed?

look at them to see if they are leaking....its uncommon for a toyota shock to go at 46k....and i cant imagine they are ALL leaking....a leaking shock leaves its hydrolic oil (or whatever that oil is) on the driveway.....I had a bilstien blow in my old s-10 Xtreme and it looked like someone unbolted the differential cover, there was so much oil....you may want to take it somewhere else or look at it yourself to make sure that guy isnt taking you for a ride....

I may be wrong, but I've heard bad things about the Rancho 5000's as far as ride quality. I have them on my 87' but couldn't tell ya cause I haven't driven it yet

I have my stock shocks leftover from my lift (tacoma) just a couple weeks ago. They have 64K on them and they're fine - sag a bit. If you want them I can ship them to you. Otherwise if you're looking for aftermarket I'm sure you can find some really good comfortable shocks for a good price.

Actually, wasn't there a thread just a while ago re: a website with really good prices for Bilsteins?
