Drove the wifes 97ltd yesterday and it was a little scary, it was bouncing all over the road and very tippy. What would be the issue here coils or shocks, the rear is sagging quite a bit also.

How many miles? Both the coils and shocks could be tired plus it's good to have the bushings on the steering rack and swaybar replaced since those do tend to make things feel lose the older they get.

Its got 250000 kms on her, its very soft ride feels very unstable

I guess what I really want to know is if putting new shocks will help.

It would help the bouncyness, but you will still be sagging and potentially hitting your conical bumpstops on the smallest bumps. You sound like you need new rear coils too.

i have a full set of '99 tall coils, if you want them i'll let them cheap. one thing i'd like to say is at least to get a brand new set of shocks, there are a lot affordable shocks out there can do the job for cheap, never use "used" shocks unless they are the expensive ones which can be rebuilt.

Mine was the same way when I bought it. Much of the scariness comes from the suspension bottoming out on the rubber bump stops. You will probably find the area they contact clean & shiny. This means the suspension is bouncing off the stops & causing the truck to jump all over the road.

New shocks may help temporarily, but you really need new coils & shocks. You might find some used '99 coils cheap, make sure they're low mileage. The labor to change them won't be much more. Best to do the job right the first time. You won't be disappointed.

Well I believe you guys are right, I will have to get the coils and shocks done, TC4 thanks for the offer but shipping form So Cal to Toronto Ontario would probably cost more than the coils are worth, otherwise Id be all over it.

Ok so I picked up some brand new coils off this guy for 50 bucks, he doesnt know exactly what year they are for, only that they will fit 96-2000. How hard is it to do on my driveway and just out of curiosity does anyone know the height of the coils that the 99s have, maybe I got lucky!

The rear coils are easy. The upper rear shock mount is a PITA. The fronts require a good quality spring compressor, I took mine in to have the front done. My compressors weren't up to the task. If you have any doubts, take it somewhere.

if all your changing for now is the coils it's a piece of cake. Just unbolt the bottom of the shocks and jack up the opposite side that your changing. should be fairly easy to crawl under and wiggle the spring out and the new one in. LOL...I think I know the guy your talking about. I came across his ad a few times.

I did crawl under my truck to have a look, it looks like the top of the coil is screwed in.

it shouldn't be, I have yet to see any coils that are screwed in. I'll send you my number. I'm in oshawa this weekend but during the week I'm around or next weekend I'd be glad to help out.
