Shipping Wheels/ UPS-FedEx-Etc. What's Best

I need to ship 4 wheels and I'm curious if anyone knows who is the cheapest, i.e. FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. ???

I just shipped 4 rims yesterday. 2 rims per box is the cheapest way to go. and I normally use fedex. they are cheaper than UPS and dhl might be the same or a buck cheaper.

it cost me $80 (with an account) to ship 2 boxes (4 rims) from ashland to somewhere in alabama.

as far as boxes, I used some old moving boxes we got through Uhaul. the 18x18x16 was a perfect size for 2 oem 16" toyota 4runner rims!

you can buy the boxes at uhaul for a couple bucks each if you need to.

hope that helps

I started up a DHL account, boxed the wheels and printed the shipping labels at home and the DHL guy came to the house and picked them up. That ended up being the cheapest option for me.

I got a set of (4) 15" Toyota 4 spoke alloys delivered from Virginia to PA, all shrink wrapped together, for 48!! bucks in 2 days via DHL. amazing deal, and they tend to be the cheapest, almost always.

i've received wheels via USPS for around $20/wheel. however, i've sent wheels and other heavy things through DHL and they have the cheapest shipping i've found, plus as BigHead posted the online printable shipping labels and free pickup are nice as well. some have had problems with them in rural areas and sometimes it takes a little longer for stuff to get where it's going but i've always had good dealings with DHL every time.

not trying to say one is better than the other, but I have had accounts with DHL and Fedex. I never had "free pickup" but it was only a few bucks more. Fedex will pick up packages as well.

Both can be printed out from your computer for the shipping labels.
I stopped using DHL when the local drop off site stopped accepting DHL (contract was up) then I was using fedex, and still am to this day.

Companies can ship things cheaper, so if you work at a company that does shipping, you get much better rates than an at home rate.

also depends how far the boxes are going. I got a quote today for a similar package from ashland oregon to vermont (across the US) and it was $40 per box (each box contains 2 rims, so 51 lbs per box at a 19x19x18 size.

Bottom line is, to get a discount, you need to open an account with either fedex or DHL.

on a side note, I never had any issues with DHL OR fedex
