seat belt / airbag question

This weekend I decided to rip out all the carpet in my 4runner. While taking out the passenger seat I noticed that the electrical connector for the seatbelt warning light was unplugged. My question is, does this connector only indicate when the seatbelt is on or off for a passenger or does this somehow affect the operation of the passenger airbag? I used to have a subaru car that would shut off the airbag when no one was sitting in the seat and I dont know if that is the case with the 4runner or not. Regardless, when I put everything back in I plugged the connector back in, just in case.

I would also like to know the answer to this question if anyone has access to a 99 wiring diagram. Thanks.

Are you talking about the wire under the seat?
