Scion HU in 3rd Gen 4Runner or Tacoma???

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know if the Scion (Pioneer) HU will fit and function in a '99 Tacoma or an '01 4Runner? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I put one in my 2nd gen 4Runner but had to dremel the edges of the console about an 1/8 to get it to fit. You might not have to on a 3rd and you don't have to on the 4th gens.

Anything can be done....Of course, only if it's worth while!

I bet it will fit, and if the wiring doesn't match up you'll have to cut and splice a ton to make it work. My question to you is: Does this Scion unit come to you for a cheap price? Less than an aftermarket deck?

Thanks for the responses. I don't have a unit lined up at the moment but I've read good things about them and I like the idea. I especially like the idea of the double-din unit so that I don't have one of those crappy "storage compartments" taking up the seond din slot. Just thought I'd ask to see if this was feasible, if anyone had tried it and if it was a direct plug n' play replacement or required a good deal of modification.

Thanks,

Drivie

It's a direct connection, no splicing required. It should work in any Toyota.
Check out the www.scionlife.com forums, there are always people there selling one. I got my 6 disc for $250 a few months ago.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread but I was wondering if anyone has pics and a description of an install of one of the Scion HU's in a 3rd Gen? I'd really like to know if the HU will fit in the dash and if any trimming is required. I'm interested in it for the MP3 capabilities.

Thanks,

Drivie

"it should work in any toyota" is not always true. i bought a 00 double din from a 4runner and it didnt fit in my wife's 95 camry.

the best way to tell is to take out your stereo and look at the harness and then compare it to the other vehicle's harness.

Thanks for the reply Bob. I'm concerned with the harness connection type but also with the size of the dash and the double-din. I'm just not sure if there will be some trimming required or not and if so, I'm less excited about the prospect...

i have the scion mp3 on my tacoma. Awesome! the head unit itself sounds heck of a lot better since its made my Pioneer; even with my stock speakers. I'm no audio enthusiast but i'm assuming it has a stronger amp. More bass.
I followed a write up at ttora but can no longer find the link since i'm not an upgraded member at delphiforums.
Some trimming with the dremel is required.

Thanks for the reply Bud. Got any pics? How much trimming did you have to do?

Thanks,

Thanks! So you trimmed the sides of the headunit, not the dash surround? That's a good idea. Thanks for the link.

the sides have to go for sure. And some minimal trimming on the top and probably bottom too. Actually, i still need to do more trimming since the console cover does not sit flush but i'm too lazy to remove it.
