Running out of gas

Is it okay to do this on a fuel injected vehicle?
I remember hearing that once and have asked before but still get conflicting responses.

Anyone know for sure?

It's not likely to hurt the fuel injection and there is no requirement to re-prime the system.

However, the in tank fuel pumps we have tend to get badly overheated when the tank runs dry. It's pretty easy to fry a fuel pump that way and they are a pain to replace.

Okay sounds good.

I felt a little bogged down on the drive to Pismo so I decided to check it out after I got home and unloaded. Got to a red light and hit the gas until I hit 60 then I eased off. Got to my right turn lane and suddenly realized I wasn't going anywhere.

I was running low on the tank (no fuel light) and I guess the consistent acceleration pushed the fuel to the back of the tank.
