I know that you can put a rubber strip from Tacomas on the 4runner's sr5 fender flare to keep it from scratching the paint. My question is do they only make black and would that look bad on a green 4runner with grey flares. I need to know because im goin to the body shop this wkend to get some stuff fixed including spots where the flares rubbed off paint. I dont want this to happen again and i would like to use this rubber stuff but dont want it to look bad. Thanks.

The TRD Tacoma pads may only come in Black. But there are various different colors available for the padding between the flare if you get the the 4Runner Limited or 2000+ SR5 flare gasketing.

You can see what the black looks like on my site and it looks absolutly factory. Also if you had a set of the parts sheets you know all the colors that are available

The stuff I have on my Bushwackers on my 2nd gen is probably similar to the stuff you are talking about that Jalaber has a write-up on.

Do you have a GI Joe's sporting goods store in your state?
The one by me stocks that stuff, and it comes in:
Gold
Red
Chrome
Black
White
Blue

I'm sure it would work if you could get some of it, as it's the exact same stuff that Bushwacker includes with their flares.

Do it. My previous black 99 did not have the rubber gasket on. After seeing jalaber's write up and pics, I took the flares off. The scratches from the daily rubbing actually damaged the paint. You can't even buff the scratches out---that's how deep they were.

So on my 98 4runner, the first thing I did was to put the rubber gasket on. I took them off recently and there isn't a single scratch.

It looks good on jalaber's 4runner. If you want to see it on a desert dune 4runner, take a look at the bottom pic of my 4runner on this page:

Approx $60 if you get them from an internet wholesaler.

I like to use www.partznet.com, part #'s and quantity on my site.

I think I need to do that too. i keep meaning to take the flares off and clean under there anyway. It's just too cold here in WI to do it now.

Like Alstaz is wanting to do.....even if you have the rubber gasket....you should take the flares off once in awhile and give the underside a washing and waxing.....just the normal daily grime under the flares causes enough friction to scratch your paint...

Thanks for the compliment. As for the rest of you guys who are considering doing this mod, I highly encourage you to do it immediately. Read Jalaber's excellent write up on his site (also in the Tech section). I used his write up as a reference. I bought it from partznet.com too (my favorite Toyota internet retailer) and did exactly what he did. I even had a little rubber gasket left over too.
