i have a 1998 4runner that i just replaced the coil pack on cylinder 1 and the spark plug wires and now it has a super rough idle and a lack of power , when i replaced the spark plug wires ,the guy i bought it from had the plug wires on wrong and had cylinder 6 and 4's plug wires mixed up . so i fixed the issue but has had the problem of rouhgt idle,it also had high idle befiore i changed the plug wires. HELP!!!!!

Omnispark is the brand I used could it be that the timing or the valves moved when I put the spark plug wires back into the correct position?

im gonna blame the wires toyota's are really picky if you dont use ngk's or denso's

I agree. Return those and spend the 25 bucks for a set of NGK's. Your truck will thank you for it.

I just went and test drove it a little more this afternoon and when i hit 50miles per hour it started to cut out and then the whole car turned itself off

ill see about doing that tomorrow on my way through town.But i dont see how a new set of spark wires would affect it because they are brand new and better than the ones i took off

when i hooked up the scanner it had trouble codes p0300,p0302,p0303,p0304 and p0306 witch my automotive manual say that these are cylinder 1,2,3,and 5 so im leaning towards it being a gas issue or the wiring harness going to all of the coil packs is bad

I no yota expert, but some vehicles are REAL picky about plug wires. A wiring harness going bad all of a sudden and showing that many codes is not high on probability.

Go back to what you did, and start there. Something is installed wrong. Double check firing order. That's what it sound like.

Suit yourself big guy. You're the one coming here looking for advise. You get the best advise, yet you dont take it and keep wondering why you have a problem. Personally, I would replace the wires first due to cost before I replace something more expensive. I'll still help you out though and show you the best place to get them though. Do what you want. I am almost certain that once you get it resolved though, you wont share the resolution with us. People have a hard time admitting they were wrong. no biggie.

ill admit that ,i was to hard headed to try the better plug wires because that fixed the problem even thought it is hard for my to see how it did. Sorry for all of the trouble

Everybody learns form mistakes. I am new to this forum, but a regular on another for one of my other trucks. I learned a long time ago that they guys on here know what they are talking about - the been there - done that theory.

They don't have time to steer you wrong. But you gotta provide information, and respect their experience and advise. As they cannot her/see the problem, it may not be correct on the first response, but this is part of the process of elimination.

You'll learn if you folow. This can be a learning experience for ya.

Thanks for posting that it was the wires giving you trouble all this time. Now when someone has similar troubles, they will see this thread and learn from you. That's what this place is all about. Helping each other resolve the little gerbils that annoy us.

So you cleared the codes and she running good now? What wires did you get denso's or NGK's?

Was wondering the same thing. Looking to change mine soon and wanted to know what was best - both brand and diameter.

i used NGK's and they work great! just wished i would of listened sooner

I picked up a set of factory "Sumitumo" wires yesterday. From opening the hood to closing it again, it took all of 30 minutes. The truck seems to start easier and an occasional small miss at highway speeds is gone.

The original wires had 244,XXX miles on them. I know because I purchased the truck new.
