Rotten Eggs
Quick question..........
I have been noticing an unpleasant "aroma" in the 4Runner lately (not THAT). Under any kind of moderate to heavy acceleration, I notice a slight sulphur smell. It's not real strong, and I consider shifting at 4,000 - 4,300 rpms to be heavy acceleration. I rarely if ever go above 4300. It also rears it's ugly head a little bit when the engine is working hard to get up a hill. The runner in question is a '97, 3.4L 5-speed, only 56K miles on it. It seems kind of early for the CAT to be going out. Any ideas????

I suppose it is POSSIBLE that it's the gas........but I rarely go the same gas station twice in a row, and it doesn't seem to be any better or worse depending on where I buy gas.

Well, you can draw your own conclusion. But I can tell you this, it's very unlikely that there is a problem with your vehicle, especially with that type of mileage. I am right at 70K, and I get that smell too. Its especially prevelant when I have the rear window down and get on it.
When I start seeing performance related problems, that's when I will begin to worry. For now, those behind me can enjoy the eggs after they get smoked.
