Hey all,

I have installed firestone ride-rides on my '98 Tacoma 4x4 TRD. So far they have been fantastic for load-levelling during towing and hauling.

However on certain highways I get some bad bouncing between expansion joints. It only happens when the distance between joints is just right. This happens at 5 PSI, the lowest PSI setting. Would moving to HD bilsteins from the TRD bilsteins help control this? My theory is that the stock shocks just can't dampen the added energy from the ride-rites.

By the way for anyone considering these air bags, even at 5 PSI they will harshen up the ride a bit. However, 5 PSI is also enough to bring me back to stock height though with a heavy canopy. When I load up I go to about 15 PSI.

Hard to say exactly, changing springs (effectively) and shocks and getting it all to work perfect afterwards can be tricky. On my DD (VW pickup), I had a similar problem with the stock springs, then it was worse when I added some leaves to the rear spring pack for added load capacity. Part of the problem was the rear shocks (KYB Gas-Adjust) , they were slightly too long for the stock mounts. So I moved the upper mounts farther out to lay the shocks over at more of an angle. With more angle, the shock dampening is less and not only did that cure the shocks bottoming out on big bumps, but the pitching problem vanished. I also partly cured a previous problem like that with stiffer front shocks (Bilstein Heavy Duty strut inserts). So, you might try some stiffer front shocks or some adjustable rear shocks (like Rancho 9000s), or both.
