ok so i went out there i felt no play moveing it side ways but i did feel it at the end where it connects to the ass end of the transmission going up it down but its not where the u joint is its where its inserted in the ass end of the trans just alittle not much. i see where the grease came out on the u joint but not much.

thanks for the quick reply i went out there and the trans feels solid in there. i heard it this morning she said it sounded like it came from the dash area under the car. i thought it came from the exhaust. i rattled the exhaust pipe nothing. right now i dont have the keys could it be the motor mount?

Don't think its the motor mount. If that where the case then why are you only hearing it in reverse. The pinging noise may be a u-joint. If it clanks before the truck starts moving then that would be my guess. The pining may be metal hitting itself against metal and it will just get sloppier and louder from there on out.

still havent jacked it up but i heard it myself i heard like a clunk on the rear end. my sister also said that it feels like the transmission slips then catches when u take off. but i also heard a rubbing noise with the clunk in reverse when u step on the gas.

check the steering rack bushings. have your sister turn the truck on and while your looking under there, have her turn the whell side to side. i bet the bushings are worn. that is what my problem was coming from the front. replace with poly bushings $30!!!

Steering rack bushings are a definite possibility and they're cheap, but unless you DIY it's gonna cost a lot of $$ for the labor (like 2.5 hrs). It could also be the sway bar bushings/end links and they're a lot easier to replace (about 10-15 min. for everything), but all those pieces will set you back about $130-150. Or, it could be all of the above.
And it still sounds like you need to replace the u-joints. It's pretty normal to have all these parts wear out after 10 yrs so welcome to the club, I did all this stuff about 2 yrs ago. BTW, wheelersoffroad.com has poly rack bushings for $16 for the set.
