replacing stock springs with stock springs

I know my 99 4Runner's a little saggy in the butt but I'm not sure I want to pay for a full lift as yet.

I have found a set of 4 used stock springs ('99) on craigslist for $70 and was wondering if you think replacing my old ones with these would be worthwhile, or whether I should just go ahead and get a new set of springs/shocks etc etc...

Just for reference, my local off-road place can do a full OME lift for $1600.

I dont do a lot of off-roading, just logging roads for camping excursions etc etc.

waddaya reckon?

If you're on a budget, $70.00 is cheap. Make sure that they are for a '99 as those had the tallest stock springs. Also make sure they have fewer miles than yours. The rear springs are easy & you could do them in less than an hour.

yup, its a 99 for sure with 140,000 KMS on the clock... thats about 60k less than my tired rear end.

It's very tempting, but living in an apartment and owning no tools means that I gotta find someone to do them for me which adds a little to the thought process - if i'm just delaying the inevitable is it worth paying for installation and then doing in again later, or will these (less worn) coils give me a firmer/taller ride?

Be sure to check the color code on the 99 springs you are buying.

I have a set of non tall 99s in my garage now and can help you verify color code.

But to answer your question-if they are already used-then yes it may be a slight waste of install money, as the ones you buy may already be "sagging" themselves....just get a set of Old Man Emu rear springs-most guys seem to love the 890s. However-those would be roughly $70 each brand new.

If your just replacing the rears, you don't need any tools. Raise the rear of the vehicle so the axel hangs down, and then you can pull the springs out and replace by hand. That's what I did when I installed my lift. The fronts are a different story as a spring compressor is needed.

That'd be great, there's a pic of the springs at the end of this post.

I'm ok with that price (even after its changed to canadian) but my local off-road place seemed to only be interested in changing the full set (springs, shocks, struts etc) because of the height difference giving it a big rake... are they talking bull to get me to buy more, or are they talking sense? I guess I'm asking if its ok to just replace springs (which I've seen mentioned on here a LOT) or whether its best to do springs and shocks together?

Land cruiser springs....its common practice to put a set of rears in the A$$ of a runner to net I think 1.5 inches of lift...
Im not a third gen guy, So I may not be spot on, but im pretty sure im close.
Hopefully someone else will chime in soon.

I would recommend OME 906's out back,If you want to get rid of the sag.I believe they are the colsest to stock height from OME..They are progressive and gives a slight rake on my 97'(i would guess 1 1/2" or so lift over stock once they settle),but would be less of a rake on your 99',since the 99' are the tallest from factory. They ride much better than the linear stocker springs. Also they will hold up much better if you load the cargo area....If you put the stockers back on...they will sag again.

Also check out Sonoran Steel's site...

...for lots of good info on 3rd gens. Specifically scroll down to System 3. May be more than you want to spend but it can help give you some direction.
