Was wondering if anyone knew anywhere online, or elsewhere where I could find a replacement headliner for a grey '01 3rd gen w/sunrrof. Mine is pretty shot, whevere had the truck before me screwed a flip down monitor in it, and also cut it. Other than that it is just plain scudgy. I have a feeling this is going to have to be salvage yard find. Also, anyone know how hard this is to do, is there any special adhesive or anything? Thanks,

For most cars and trucks you have to pull the front window out.

damn, I kinda figured it might come out through the back hatch, but finding a new headliner looks like it will be hard enough

this tells you how to take it off. looks like it'll just slide out the back hatch.

when you figure how to take it off, you might be able to just get some fabric and spray adhesive and have a buddy stretch it while you spray the fab on top. i saw a show once and they did this, looked clean but depends on fabric you buy i guess!

You can buy replacement headliner material at some parts stores and I saw some at Jo-ann fabrics. Don't ask me why I was there!

so it might be able to be re-upholstered kinda is what your saying? or am I missing something? by the way 4runnermt, why were you there???

Actually I was there because I took my mom out to lunch and she wanted to go in there. But the headliner stuff looks pretty nice. Its foam backed and sells by the yard.It looks similar to factory material. Maybe you can remove the old one and trace its shape onto the new material, cut it and install it that way? hmmm, might give that a shot, thanks, if anyone else know where I can pick up a headliner cheap, around the $200 range, let me know.

the new headliner is $700 from the stealer, I checked, lol. Whoever had the 4runner before me put permanent vacumn marks in it, also seems that they vacumned most of the fuzzy material off.

wow wow wow, $700 for basically a piece of carboad with fabric. Hmm, I don't know what route I'm gonna go on this, whoever had mine actually cut the dome light whole about an inch deeper on 3 sides of the dome light, which could be dealt with using a generic dome, but that still doesnt take care of the places where they used screws to mount the LCD. I left it intact, and it covers everything, I might just leave it that way, but it rattles around a lot, and I havent used it once since owning.

For that much money, it would be better to go to an upholstery shop and get a quote. It will be expensive but no where near $700. They would just reline the existing cardboard so not a big deal...

The only charge around 125 for a toyota 4 dr corolla.So if it was around 200 to 250 that would be cheaper than 700 big ones.I watched the guy do it.Its not that its hard you just have to use industrial spray adhesive.He just ripped off the old material cleaned and scraped the old glue off and sprayed glue on.Then he layed the new material on it and spread it out with a bondo spreader.It took all of an hour and he was finished.He said the trick was in the glue.the cheap stuff wont hold up.

Mine isn't really a fabric those, it is like a craboard with a texture sprayed on, I actually tried to seperate the "fabric" from the boards, and it peels like paper, I am assuming that they could just put upholstery over it. If you have a 3rd gen, try knocking on the headliner, there is no foam backing, and it is not cloth. Kinda weird, but I have to see about all of this, NJ is extremely expensive for anything I got a quote of $350 to reupholster those felt inserts on my doors)and that was if I removed them and brought them in)
