Ok, so i found a part on my truck thats not in the haynes manual, its circled in red in this picture:

What is that? Am i supposed to put the socket over the little tab and just crank on it? Notice the scratch marks where the last person who had it apart aparently had a difficult time with it.

I cant find any snap rings anywhere, other than the one in the image thats half way off. Any help would be appreciated i dont want to have to tear something up if i dont have to.

Its a 1987 Toyota 4x4 pickup, 4 banger 5 speed.

It is the washer between the nuts. Do not put your socket over it and try to take the nut off. This washer is bent over the out side nut and the inside nut so it keeps them in place. Take a flat scerw driver and push between the nut and the tab towards your truck, carefull not to break it, bend it towards you truck just enough so your socket will fit on the nut. Unscrew the nut and you will see how the washer is in place to hold the outter and inner nut.

I recently changed my rotors and repacked my bearings. The peice you are pointing to is a locking washer. There is a huge nut then a locking washer and then another huge nut. So first bend the locking washer off the first nut and then remove the first nut with a socket , i used a hammer and chisel to move the nut loose, once you removed the first nut you pull off the locking washer, the peice you bent off the first nut and then you remove the second nut. Then you can pull you rotors off. And I have a haynes , and once i took the nuts and washer off, I found the diagram, its in there , just horribly misslabled and out of place.

I just did this Saturday! I had to buy a huge freaking castle like head socket. I didn't do any bending of the washer though. I simple put the socket on te first nut and turned. It wasn't very tight at all. I had to turn once or twice, and the rest of the turns with my hand. I pulled the washer off and put the socket on the second nut and did the same. The washer was fine too, it didn't bend at all. I can tell you one thing. I'm not a fan of having to pack bearings. BTW I bought some cheap pad and rotors at autozone. When the guy brought them out, I asked if these were the right rotors, because they were Brembo rotors. I paid $60 for 2 rotors, a set of pads, and some bearing grease. Not to shabby if you ask me.
