i got my alignment w/ new lower ball joints w/o a hassle
well thats misleading, while waiting (i did get a ride home and back, took about 6 hours) and listening to the stealer on the phone w/ other customers i heard them recommend to 2 diff customers that their tranny and/or brake fliuds were dirty and should be replaced , and BOTH accepted the offer. i got the same offer when asked and declined. the tranny fliud was changed berfore i got it (~8,000 mi ago w/ receipt). i justed at their scam AND told him so.
it does seems to be a bit smoother in the corners now.

I don't see how that's a scam. For all you know maybe it was time for those fluids to be changed. Dealers are in the business to make money just as much as the guy with the shop on the corner.

I just don't get the post.

A majority if Dealership are not connected to other dealerships records. We go by the mileage that Toyota rec.

i understand capitalism. the tranny fluid was just changed (not a toyota dealer job) and i can see the brake fluid looks clean. ur right about the others as i never saw their cars, just a coincidence of the same offer to 3 different customers in a 20 minute span? i don't think so.
i consider my self lucky enough to be able to assess and make my own repairs and generally never go to a stealer unless absolutely necessary (free ball joints!)

Was it two or three different people?

I understand that for YOU, you know when you last changed your fluids, but most average people don't.

Tough to call it a scam when you only heard one side of the conversation.

2, im the 3rd (in 20 min). i guess thats my point, if you aren't payin attention to whats goin on, you'll be payin extra $$$ for it. i don't like that there are people (stealers) who take advantage of a situation.
prime example: my wife does ME a favor and brings my rotors in to be turned, the shop says they bad and need to be replaced. well im so pissed when i go in (i got em turned w/o hassle, for free too)talk to the manager (w/ the guys name) and he ends up w/o a job for trying to pull ˟˟˟˟˟ like that on us. unfortunately i could go on & on w/ similiar stories.
i just don't like to see people get scammed, ok maybe if they deserve it. done.

At my dealer, they have a seperate room where they have all the "teams" to write up a work order for your vehicle, and where you sit and wait till it's done. They always ask me and everyone to leave the area so they can pull the same BS on everyone.

Selling ice to the Eskimos.

My Dealer (Karl Malone, Albuquerque) Told me about the TSB when I was in last Monday having something else looked at. They replaced the Ball Joints and aligned the front end - no charges, no B.S. about my lift or anything.

Well, I guess that Toyota finally decided to start the Ball Joint Recall in Canada too. I had called the Toyota Help Line after I saw this thread for the first time, and they told me that yes my 02 4Runner VIN was in the range of affected vehicles, but that the campaign was only for the US so they could not do the replacement for free. After a couple more phone calls, I just received my recall letter in the mail... I wonder if they've actually started sending letters to Canadian Toyota owners, or if they just sent me one to get me off their backs...

I finally got my letter a couple days ago...Not sure if it's so late because I didn't buy it new.

Anyway, going to call the dealer today. I hope they'll do an alignment also...

Hi,
I just got my letter for this recall.. I'm in the Boston area.. anyone else has this done around the Boston area? Because its hard for me to believe any dealerships are any good... anyone got any recommendation on which dealership to bring it to w/ the alignment done as well?

Since I saw this resurected thread....If I have only recently bought my 04 Taco, should I call my dealership and check my Vin to see if it was fixed?
