Rear window - removal for new motor

Rear window - removal for new motor

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, I am pretty new to this forum and have seen from other threads that I am not alone in having problems with the rear window.

I have cleaned and greased and it still needs lots of help to go up or down. A local garage said that the motor is lazy, and it sure sounds like it, so I took the plunge ... and bought a second hand one ! Anyway, the yard that it came from have bench tested and confirmed that it is a good motor, so we'll have to see.

My main question is - how do I change it ?

I can see that there are three screws that hold the motor to the regulator, but these are on the rear, so access from the inside doesn't seem possible.

This is what I propose - could somebody please let me know if this sounds right.

1 - remove interior panelling
2 - lower the window and open the tailgate
3 - flick the door catches to "pretend" that the tailgate is shut
4 - raise the window and attempt to remove it - this bit is where I will struggle - how is the window held in ??
5 - remove the regulator ( looks to be four bolts ) - again, I may struggle - is this sprung loaded at all ? Anything to be aware of ?
6 - remove old motor
7 - fit new motor
8 - put it all back together !!

Any help would be really appreciated before I start - I'm at work today ( Sunday ) and need to be able to drive home later, with rear window put back in !!

Many thanks in advance.

Well, I've done it - the motor has been changed, and I can now get in the back !! The great news is that you do not need to remove the window. Just lower the window, open the tailgate, flick the side catches ( round twice, so that it thinks that the tailgate is closed ), raise the window about halfway, taking care to support it with something soft, and you can then get to the motor securing bolts using a small socket wrench with an 8mm socket. Very pleased.
