rear window problems
So i've been having some trouble with my rear window lately. When I start to roll it down, it moves about a quater inch, then it stops and makes a loud grinding noise. It moves if you push it down by hand, but it stops and grinds about four more times on the way down. It rolls up fine, but a bit slowly. I have concluded that the motor's gears are stripped, and that it needs to be replaced. I've been looking around town for a replacement, at the dealrership its almost $500 CDN!, and at the autowreckers almost $200CDN. I've also been looking on ebay, and found plently of motors and regualtors for the front four windows, and for other makes of toyotas, but none for the rear tailgate.
So... does anyone know if I can use a motor from a different window, or even from a different vehicle to replace my broken one?
Thanks

I heave heard a 4Runner power window motor may work. There was a thread on the Off-Road.com Toyota SUV forum last year on that topic. You might have a look and see if you can find anything. You may also consider opeing up the tailgate and inspecting things to confirm that the motor is the problem.
And if you are too lazy to search on ORC, here is the thread:

dunno if you have thought about this... but try opening up the tailgate and greasing the regulator... will allow it to move more freely, might make yours last a little longer (till you find one) or maybe fix it completely? never know, worth a shot.
