90 Rear Window/Brake Light Problem

Well I thought I had the rear window/brake light bulb problem solved.I paid the body shop across from work $100 to get the tailgate open and all the bulbs replaced.I noticed Friday after work that the same brake light is not working. It didn't last two weeks.I also noticed that the front side marker on the same side was not working either.Coincidence? The body shop guy said he changed all the bulbs and changed a connector(small white plastic piece)that was rusty inside. He left it in the truck.I think he just replaced that connector and never got the tailgate down. Can a connector control a brake light?Could he have installed it incorrectly causing a surge or spike blowing out the brake light and the marker? Thanks guys...Joe
