rear suspension change?
okay, lookin for some advice here on my rear suspension
right now i have downey coils and bilstein shocks. and a stock bumper. i want to increase the travel and just make it better.
so this is what i'm thinking... since i have the stock bumper for now, just go to an OME n86 shock and keep the downey coils.
then once i upgrade to a steel bumper, which probably won't be anytime real soon, i'd just replace the downey coils with an OME coils to match the OME shocks.
how does that sound?
also something to consider are limiting straps. i've got the rancho ones that came with the downeys, but i want to get some longer ones from mastercraft. what's the max length i can get?

You can run the N86 shocks with the Downey coils. I wish I still had my downey coils. My 891's are down to 1.5" of lift. Casey's Downeys and my old Downeys held that bumper quite well.
You really only need to increase the length of the rear shocks. The OME Prado shocks are the longest you can run without Drive Shaft contact with the gast tank skid.
What you want to do with the limiting straps is install the OME shock top mount, leave the bottom round mount hanging, them measure from the center of the hole in the tab welded to the frame to the center of the shock round hole. That is your limiting strap magic number.
Did you see the 2 sets of Chevy springs in my garage? You want some travel you head back over here and that second set of 93 chevy 1500 leafs is yours. I'll have already worked the bugs out of mine.

Oh yeah, and in order to run the Chevys you'll need one of my rear bumpers with the chevy spring hanger option. I'mnot kidding the rear mounts need to be built into the bumper mounting brackets.
Remember those Toyota OME hangers Vern ordered for me...................

oh man, from a simple shock change to chevy springs. hmm. tempting.
i don't know about that yet. definitely something to consider. i know i'd get a whole lot more travel, but do you have a number to throw out on how much more? i remember seeing a picture of a 3rd gen with leafs in the back, that was some sweet flex. and to be honest, i wanna see how yours turns out. i know it'll be a nice setup, just wanna see it.
the reason i'm asking bout rear suspension is because i'm gonna beef up my front end suspension and wanted fix up the back too.

You will want to wait to see how mine does. The Chevy swap should be quite impressive, but on the other hand all the parts are adding up to be quite a bit and the labor is going to be alot. Everything has to b e plasma cut off and then ground smooth. Then the new equipment welded on.
We'll just have to see................................
What front shocks do you have right now?

i manage with my current suspension, but i know i can do better.
for the wheeling around here, and just all around, i think i'm gonna go with SAWs. DR coilovers would be nice, but not $950 nice.
and i hear ya on the lockers and gears. those will be coming as well...
i'm probably gonna go for those OME prado shocks (part number? link? couldn't find in on quick search) and some longer limiting straps for now.

Steve already gave you the part # for the rear OME shocks.
It's N86.
Get 'em from Mike at Xtreme Off-Road

Just remember that the grass usually looks greener on the other side. Once you get over there, it might not look that green anymore.
I ran Cornbreds and Bilsteins, I know what you have and it's really not bad at all.
ARB & 4.88 so you can keep up with Casey. Boy that sounds funny to say, but the boys got the goods now !!!
