Rear disc break conversion for 3rd gen?
Awhile back, there was a classified post for a rear disc break conversion kit. Here's the link: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...ear+disc+brake
It looked like the work would be a true PITA. But then I saw this post on tr4.org: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...threadid=13178
It seems like this guy did a rear break conversion for about $500. Is this right? It seemed like the prior post talked about a bunch of add-ons required. Any thoughts?

I don't know about the kit, and there is no doubt that 4 discs are better than 2 (and 2 are better than 4 drums, ....). I have thought about this conversion for both my LC and my 4R, but have opted against it for other, better mods (lockers, lift, regearing, and oh, yeah - front disc brakes!). I have done pretty steep offroading, and pretty heavy braking, and never had a problem so long as I kept my current brake setup in good condition. My thought is until I have everything else done, I will drop that to the bottom of the list. I don't have time and money to fix what isn't broken.
But, I do think it would be a cool mod, so bump this baby - I would like to know what others think.

I don't think it's that hard to do or expensive.....check out wabbit's page.....
I've been looking into it on my 2nd gen with the eldorado e-brake and as soon as the funds are there I'll be doing it.

Here is another thread on the subject:

Rear discs are something I was always interested in doing, but have yet to follow through.

One of links had a guy contemplating the swap due to his massive tires (Sky kit) but he did some other conversion instead. It just seems a lot more hassle than it's worth, especially since I'm only considering it for performance reasons and I want to waste more money.
