Does anyone make some protection for our rear diffs? (V6) Or is the rear diff pretty bulletproof?

I have Trail-Gear diff armor on the front and rear...there are tons of other choices, but for $29.00 each you cant beat it.

The rear is pretty well protected unless you back up into a rock or something (and I have done that on the trail).

I looked at Trail Gear's website and it doesn't show one for the 00 V6. I also e-mailed them and their reply was... "The newer trucks/4Runners have a larger ring gear so it will not fit. Sorry. " It will fit 79-95s acording to their website. Looks like yours is a 95.

You could always do the 8" or so pipe cap trick. Get a cap, cut it in half and weld that to the back of the diff cover area.

I did this on mine and it worked great. The pipe cap might need to be widened somewhat to fit the larger axle you have. You might be able to weld on their simple small peice of armor that just welds right onto the diff cover...
To be honest though, I don't have more than two scratches on the rear diff armor, personally, I would be more worried about a pinion skid or something like that.

Search around, look for a butt weld 8" steel pipe cap.
