oh no what do i do now? i tried to take it off earlier with a ratchet and it just kept slipping off...any suggestions? i gotta see if its got water in there! thanks ~kyle

I also bought a grease gun so i could grease my spots on the drivetrain. i guess you have to have a bigger end..18mm?? i suppose you buy those in the section where they sell regular sockets and such? thanks for the info. Kyle

Try a six point socket on a impact gun. If the hex gets stripped , try vise grips.If you get it off, definetaly replace with a new one. Last resort.... weld a nut onto the old hex head and try again.

Try hammering on the next smallest size (only use an impact socket)

if none of those ideas work go to sears or home depot and buy a socket for taking stripped bolts out i have a set from snap on called turbo sockets but everyone else sell some thing similiar

I've never seen one of those big enough for the 24 mm filler plug. do they make one?

What I ended up doing when I stupidly rounded mine was pull the 3rd member (I was regearing and dropping in an ARB airlocker anyway) and tap on it with a ball pein and punch from the inside and then hit it with the impact socket from the outside. the difference is that I drilled a 1/2" hole through the head and pounded in an easy-out and then torque that into the impact air wrench and it spun right out. the reason I drilled the hole was to tap it and just screw in a nylon bolt for a plug so I could "limp" it along until I had a reason to pull the 3rd member. it worked really well, better than pulling the axle or the breather to fill it everytime.

they only make 22mm and 24mm right? no 23? an impact socket is referring to a 6 pointed? just makin sure, and what is an impact gun? know what an impact wrench is...and i will buy a new plug..where do i find one of these? and does anyone have any idea on the grease gun? thanks for the replys...~kyle

An impact gun and impact wrench are the same thing. An impact wrench is sometimes referred to as an impact gun because it is shaped kinda like a gun (ie with a pistol grip).

An impact socket IS NOT the same thing as a 6 pointed. An impact socket set will say somewhere on it "impact socket" and they are generally black in color rather than silver. If you try to use a normal socket with an impact gun, it is very possible that you will cause the socket to expode! They aren't built to withstand the high torque that an impact gun can apply.

I'm not sure what you're asking with the grease gun question. The grease gun fits onto Zerk fittings on your drivetrain (zerks are a type of one way valve - they will let grease in but not out, they will also keep dirt and debris out), then you pump the grease and then you're done. There's nothing 18mm about it, the zerks are small.
