Your FJ40 has ABS?

I think the ABS sensor on the 2nd gen is in the center section of the rear diff not near the wheels like the 3rd gen. May be a faulty wheel speed sensor.

Yeah, there's some resistance and continuity tests you can do on the sensor on the diff. The FSM and chiltons say what the specs are. I posted some pics of the ABS sensor plug in a post about my speed sensor, so search for that.

When my Rear-Anit Lock came on it was just a shot ABS Relay. I think it was like 30 for the part and 50 for labor (an hour) so 80 all together, somewhere near there anyway.

It could also be the speed sensors...all I know is on mine it was the Relay, my $.02

I had the same problem, turned out to be a bad ABS speed sensor.

what does this affect?? only abs -- my rear brakes still work right?? i am pretty sure even with a bad sensor the rear brakes still work they may just lock

if it doesnt do anything but prevent the abs from kicking in I will say fock it and roll without rear abs

It's fine, your ABS just won't work.

I went without fixing mine for about a month and a half and finally got sick of seeing the light on. The mechanic also said that after leaving it for a while, more stuff could go wrong. But, as long as the actual BRAKE light isn't on (meaning your brakes are messed up) then you're fine.

Don't worry about fixing it right away, I wouldn't wait too long though...

Just my $.02

one of my roommates had a durango and the abs light would come on so he just pulled the abs fuse -- the light is on always now and has had no problems (except for it being a dodge he has many problems just none with the abs) braking. his 99 durango has spent more time in the shop than any other vehicle i have every seen. he pulled the fuse about a month after he got it and he got it new when they first came out (i think its a 99)

thanks for all your help, i will probally NEVER get this fixed since i am that slack -- my alignment has been off for over a year and when i make a right hand turn my front DS tire skids:pat: damn i need a raise!!
