Raising Back Seats in a 1998 4Runner

Hi all, I just bought a 1998 4runner SR5 4WD and love it. Problem is, it didn't come with an owner's manual, so much of this vehicle remains a mystery, like where the jack is.

One thing that has been bothering me is the rear passenger seats. They act like they could raise, but something is keeping them and I don't want to yank it and break anything. So, do the rear seat come up revealing a compartment, and if so, how do I raise them?

Thanks

yeah, you should see some straps in the middle of each seat, just yank on them, it wont hurt 'em. and what do ya know, the jack is under the passenger side rear seat. go give it a try

Sweet, thanks. I yanked on those straps, just got a little apprehensive because it felt something was keeping them down.

hmm, maybe there is, you could slide your hands down in the split between bottom and back of the seat and pull if you dont want to yank too hard

No, you're solution worked. I was talking about my earlier attempts. Thanks again.

And in case you diddnt know, after you pull the seat bottom up, pull up on the little knobs on the top right of the right seat and top left of the left seat, then the seat backs fold down flat.

Just in case you diddn't know.

Make sure you take the headrests off first.

i also have a 98... I went through the same thing as you with the back seats not wanting to move. Here is a trick to make it REALLY easy to lift. When you grab the strap... don't pull up or pull hard. Just pull towards the front seats and it will come up with ease.

Let's see some photos of your rig!

If you find that the bottom rear seats seem to "be locked" and don't lift up easily take the plastic hinge covers off (attached at the floor) and back the bolts off a little...seat should lift real easy, now just tighten them down a touch.
