quick question regarding tire sizes on 4Runner
Hi, I got a quick question regarding tire sizes for the 3rd gen. 4Runner. My original tires come in 265 70R16, my question is, can I use 225 70R16 tires on the same rim ?

Yep, I checked a couple of 225/70R16s and the recommended rim width is 6-7". I assume you have 16x7s.
But, WHY would you want to do that? It would look.... silly... Gonna get some Gold Daytons too?

well, the reason why I want to get a smaller tire from 265 to 225 is because the movement of the steering wheel will be more smooth, or not as tight. Right now with the 265, when I turn the steering wheel during parking or at very low speed, it feels stiff and tight. So, I thought maybe if I can change to a smaller tire (225 70R16), I can turn the steering wheel much more smoothly and not as tight since smaller tire has less surface contact on the ground. I believe the rims are 16 inch X 7 inch. Also, it will drop the vehicle about 1 inch since the sidewall of the tire is shorter with the smaller tire.

I just checked and the manual says that, if you downsize to the 225's, that you have to install Dingo Balls as part of the suspension drop...
Sorry. Bad day. Couldn't... resist... the... temptation...

Dang guys... he's here looking for help not to be made fun of. Sheesh!
FS,
Do you know anyone with these tires already? Maybe it'd be a good idea to try it out first before going out and actually purchasing. Another thing to consider also is that it is a mid-sized large vehicle, you are not going to get sports car handling and steering out of it so there's really only so much you can do.
Something also to consider is how new this vehicle is to you. I went from a Camry to my Tacoma and one of the first things I noticed was the steering. After a week of driving I'd completely forgotten about it.
