does any one know if the stock 22re block with a turbo head will handle getting turbocharged? The block would be remanufactured or rebuilt and have a turbo head and all other necessary trubo hardware for the conversion. My neighbor said the stock block would be able to handle a turbo but I just want to make sure.

Get the low-compression turbo pistons as well. Just the head alone won't cut it.

I have been told the block is different. But not sure if I believe that. Go to toyota Have them match part # for 22RTE block vs. 22RE block.
You will need the bigger radiator. the factory 22RE is to small.

When my turbo blew, thought of upgrading to the ct-26, but then found a rebuilt
ct-20 on Ebay. The price was right. I hear the ct-26 gives you a little more power.
Do you know the difference??

I'm going to do the swap over christmas break when school is out. I'm gathering what I need now and doing a little research before I start. My stock motor was poorly maintained by my grandpa and now I'm paying for is stupidity.

my neighbor who is a mechanic and had a turbo 4runner before said you get more power with the ct-26 and with an intercooler you should get about 180-200hp

I like the intercooler idea. I'm going talk with my friend/mechanic and see if it would help with power on my truck.
I'm at 266,000 and some change on original motor/rebuilt head and turbo. Running strong.

I'm only at 149,000 and need a new motor thanks to my grandpa. I've saved up enough money to do the project and hope I can get the stuff I need.

If you need advise on the motor, let me know, I will tell you what I have learned. I'm still learning!
There are a lot things that are different from a stock 22RE vs. 22RTE.
I was told the wiring harness is a little different, rear diff. is different( but found out mine is the same). But like I said, you've been doing your home work on this.
As far as Grandpa, I guess he forgot to change the oil.............................

I have decided to buy a messed up turbo truck and swap everything over this summer hopefully. I found a turbo truck for sale for $2500. I talked to the guy and he said there was a problem with oil getting into the radiator. He said he had his mechanic change the head gasket twice so the only other explanation is a bad mechanic or a cracked blocked. The truck has a brand new LCE head and all gaskets were replaced according to the seller. I'm planning on viewing the truck tomorrow and I will offer the guy $1700 since it most likely has a cracked block which will cost a few hundred to replace.

I had my mechanic friend look at the truck b4 i bought it and he told me everything that was wrong with it that he could see. We test drove the truck and found out it had a blown turbo and ˟˟˟˟ty transmission. The guy was a little stiff on the price, but I got it for $1850. We managed to drive it home and decided that maybe the only thing wrong with the motor was the blown turbo since the seller said he had the head gasket replaced twice and his mechanic said he didn't see any cracks in the block. He also said he sent the block to a machine shop to make sure the block surface was flat. I swapped out the turbo with a spare one I bought on ebay and started the car. It idled beautifully until I realized there was an oil leak where one of the oil pipe lines goes into the engine. I had trouble getting it in and it got stripped. Other than that, I think the motor is fine. Now I just need to pull it out and send it to a machine shop to get it rethreaded and have them put pressure on the block to make sure there are no cracks. If all goes well, I will be swapping the motor in in just a few weeks.

I just tried to put the ct-26 turbo on the stock exhaust manifol and it doesn't fit, but there is just a little bit of a difference. Has anyone gotten it to fit? If so, how? Does anyone know if the LCE turbo header flange will mate with the ct-26?
