Purchasing a truck from out of state - question.

I'm looking at getting a 02 sport ed that is currently located in Utah. I live in CA and I"m wondering if its a big deal to get it registered here in CA. Thanks.

That is going to be a state law question. Call the Utah and California DMV’s and get the names of the people that you talk to (incase there is a problem later). Call each twice and make sure you get the same answers. I have done this once and I was able to buy a 15 day temp tag to get the car home, but it may be different where you live. You need to check with your insurance company too.

The DMV’s will be able to give you the specifics so that you don’t have to pay taxes twice, excess fees, etc. It would not be good to loose several hundred dollars because of some bad advice from someone on the internet.

Good luck!

Thank you very much I was planning on calling around anyway, I'm just curious if anyone has had any experience doing something similar.

i recently purchased my 2000 4runner from texas and then registered it to CA, the only thing is - tell them you bought it for cheap cause DMV is gonna charge you sales tax - a whopping 8.25% on whatever u tell them you bought it for - so let me know u bought it for 1000 bones or so and itll make it worth it to transfer to CA. The other fees were around 130 bucks.

Did you have to do any special emissions stuff, or was your rig a CALI SPEC one already?

I bought mine from Arizona. It isn't a California spec emissions version, and it registered and smogged fine.
