Pulling a trailer

I have a 2.7L manual transmission 4WD Taco, and want to pick up a self contained travel trailer.
I'd like to hear from people who have one (trailer), and are towing it with the same size truck as mine. Specifically what trailer weight they/you have, and whether what you have is a good choice.

I pull a 16 foot Viking pop up trailer, with electric brakes, using my 01 tacoma SC v-6 auto.

not sure how powerful the 2.7 is but the sixer has a hard time with the approach to the Eisenhower tunnel. 80 miles used close to half a tank. Hard to maintain speed and keep out of the boost. Have not used the trailer other than this one time for hunting season.

Truck pulled it well, no waggy rear end or other trailer problems.

I had an 83, 4cyl Nissan/Datsun P/U, and pulled a 15' self contained trailer. I ended up in 4th, sometimes 3d gear going up grades, but it eventually got to the top. Don't know what size engine it had, but doubt very much is was larger than the 2.7.
My wife and I are going to shop around for another small trailer, but I'm curious about other people pulling, say 3500 lbs with a 2.7L

Had a 17' ski boat, at least 3500 lbs, probably over 4k that I towed a few times. I have the same motor/tranny as you. It was ok, could do 65+ on the interstate and felt safe, it's pretty flat here though. I actually towed that boat a lot more with my 90, it was a little more work but the smaller 4 did ok too.

I'd suggest keeping the base weight of the trailer as light as you can get away with. You will probably add a lot more weight camping than we needed for a day on the lake.
