Joey,
Where did you get the procedure to disable? Is it reversible?
PM me if you don't mind.

Matt,

PM sent. You might not be able to do it the easiest way since yours is an 01. However, it still isn't hard. My 00 was easy, you'll see what I mean in the PM.

I guess that they are still an option on some vehicles. I had mine for about 4 years before I disabled them. I did not want my Sylvania bulbs to burn out any quicker than they will already.

i disabled mine too, with a out of the way switch, usually they're off, but i have my normal lights on all the time anyways, since they automatically turn off when you open the door.

my 00 s-10 had DRL....to disable them if you pressed the "Dome Override" button four times it would turn off the DRL...I though that was a neat option.....but then again I guess the DRL saves lives so maybe I'd leave them on if I had them now....

Grey wire allows the rear locker to be used in 2HI as opposed to only 4HI...

I never understood the concept of DRLs...why are they there? I mean, theyre pretty dim, and dont help during sunrise/sunset or cloudy conditions, and they are simply replaced by the HiBeams when those are on. WTF is the point of having them? IMHO theyre ugly too..

Daytime running lights, usually the low beam headlights with a resistor in the circuit to lower the voltage. Studies show they make it easier to be seen. Standard up here in Canada since the early 90s. Very useful around here, especially in winter when the clouds are right down on the deck, silver and light grey cars become invisible without lights.

Exactly like everyone stated, they are there for safety, if you are driving into the sun it's hard to see approaching traffic, the DRL's make your vehicle more noticeable. Personally I think it is crazy to turn them off, I run silverstars with my DRL's and through two sets they have lasted just as long as my friends in his 98 w/o DRL's. BTW, anyone know how to turn off the ABS and airbags, that airbag light at startup and the pulsing brake pedal bother me.

I have DRLs as well and to be honest, I'd rather go through 10 sets of Silvestars instead of saving one and being in the hospital for the rest of my life because some jerk didn't seem my car coming.

As everyone have said, DRL are for safety and safety is more important than any looks or money saved.
