Power Steering pump leaking?
1st real problem from my truck. While changing the motor oil yesterday I noticed my P/S pump was damp all over and a few oil drops slung back at the engine. Fluid is not hitting the ground nor can I tell where it is coming from on the pump. Its just damp and dark wet collor all over. So how big a job is this? dealer job? pump replacement re-built ones seem to be available at Autozone for $111.65 + a core charge. Can I do this job myself. I currently maintain my own truck but this will be my 1st big job besides doing front brakes last year. How does the pump bleed itself once installed. Where do I get new line washers, toyota? I have a good dealer locally I am friends with a service advisor should I consilt him for repairs. They did an oustanding job on my timing belt replacement back at 34k miles when my water pump went bad. I am at 85k miles now seems premature to have a P/S pump start leaking. BTW its a Tacoma Prerunner with the 3.4L engine.
thanks for any help,
roy
