Power steering pump

The past few mornings it has been cool and when I first get in the power steering pump whines for a few miles then clears up..The motor only has 56k on it..I have thought about draining it and replacing with Lucas..So how is the best way to drain it? And any ideas on what may be causing this? Thanks Patrick

You might have air in the lines or the level of fluid is too low.
Make sure the pump is filled with ATF to the proper level and bleed by moving the sterring wheel lock to lock.

If you want to try the flush......

No, ATF only.

How is the fluid color?
You might also do the flush and see if that helps the condition at all.....it doesn't use much fluid to do it.

I've never seen ATF in any color other than red. Power steering fluid is sort of gray/black in color, so I'd bet that its got PS fluid in it. Bleed all the fluid and replace it with Toyota ATF

Make sure its full of fluid with the cap off turn the wheel lock to lock a bunch of times holding at lock for a second. if the system was dry previously make sure to check on the level after a turn or two.

Are you reading your own thread?

....if so try rereading post #2 for flushing directions.

Yes, that has PS fluid in it and needs to be flushed ASAP with ATF.
