possibly a stupid question?
ok, so i KNOW that i should probably know this by now, considering i've been tinkering around with engines for about 8 years now, but here's my question: for those fluid changes that have the word "flush" in them (i.e. radiator "flush", tranny "flush", etc.), is flushing necessary? is there really a benefit that is worth the extra effort of doing so, as opposed to just doing a drain and refill? and if it is worth doing a flush, how exactly do you do it? i've only ever done drain and refills. a guy from my church owns a repair shop and recommended that i flush my tranny. and then gave me the price. i couldn't believe it was that expensive! so i was just wondering the pro's and con's of it. hit me back. thanks guys.

i dont think its possible to completly flush your system by yourself, thats why the cost is so high for a shop to do it, they have a machine to run all the fluid out.

I have not done this by myself but I poured in the new tranny fluid while a friend monitored how much was coming out. This is a lot cheaper than finding a flush machine.

Your truck is a 5 speed so I dont know how you would flush it! I would flush the cooling system if I were you, its not hard and really gets all of the old crap out of the engine and radiator... just my .02
