Please welcome my cousin to the world of Toyota
yesterday he puchased a brand new 2003 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner w/Rear Locker
he's already talking about superchargers
i'm gonna have him do the deckplate mod soon, will that void any part of the warranty?
question about the rear locker, is it supposed to stay blinking or is it supposed to go solid at some point?

Congratulations on the new PreRunner!
I tried to convince my cousin to buy a Toy. He bought a Honda Accord instead :pat: It now has a "pissed-off hummingbird" exhaust and soon to have a fiberglass spoiler.
As far as warranty, I have no idea!

Hey - welcome to the wonderful world of Toys!
The locker indicator light should be solid when it is engaged, and blinking when it disengages. It will probably disengage at speeds above 5 mph. unless he does the wire mod to override the switch.
That's a perfectly good airbox! Why cut it all up? My guess is that it would definitely give a dealer a great excuse to charge him money for engine service. I would recommend waiting until after the warranty is up... if he really wants to butcher his airbox

The locker light blinks when the locker button has been depressed yet the locker has not engaged. If I remember correctly, it also blinks while attempting to disengage.
BTW: I have had at least 5 warranty claims with the deckplate mod installed (unrelated claims) and never had one issue with the dealer.

get an extra airbox
If you want the mod but are conserned about the warranty go to a different dealer and get another airbox. Cut that one up and drop it in with a K&N filter and save the factory one for trips to the dealer for service. just remember to rob a little oily grime on the dirty side of the "dealer filter" or they'll know something is up On the other hand if you do the mod right there will be no problems to worry about so just chill man ('scuse the 70's speak my brothers) Aviator

I'll tell him about the light. we never moved the truck when we had the button on, so we'll try that next time he's around. He left for 2 weeks down to san diego where he works. he comes around every 2 weeks or so. he's on duty for the coast guard
I'll tell him he's invited though. I hope to have a new truck soon. so it might not be my red 4runner, but a BLACK 4runner

My locker was reluctant to engage the 1st time as well. I drove forward maybe 10' and started to turn right and it audibly engaged and the light went solid. Engages quickly now.
