Please tell me if my engines DEAD!
Before you read this, I just want you to know that I posted this on another forum too, just because i want to get a quick answer, sorry!
Ok.. Im' driving home from work today, about 75 - 80 MPH as usual.. but all of a sudden, my truck loses sooo much power. So much as it died, it was just dropping in speed (5 speed) no matter how hard I pushed on the gas. So I pull over, pop the hood. Everything seemed normal, I see maybe a little smoke/mist from the engine, but I look at my temp gauge, and it's half way as usual. So I start the truck again.. it starts, kinda, idling at about 500rpms.. then dies. So I figured it's my fuel pump, seeing how I've had a bad connection for a awhile.. so I mess with the connection, then proceed to start it.. it starts at 500RPMs again, but I rev it.. it sounded fine.. so I took off again. But about 2 miles down the road, the engine started acting funny, and shacking, with no power at all... so I drag it on as far as I can, thinking it was the pump... thne I finaaly pull over again, check everything again. pump, spark plug wires... and then i try to start it, it wouldn't turn at all!! You can here the starter trying, but it won't move the engine. So i checked the oil, and the oil's not even registering on the dip stick, which is weird 'cause I just cahned the oil 3500 miles ago. But I look at the 'head' of my engine, I think. there like 4 or 6 bolts on the VERY top of the block, and one's almost threaded all the way off, then I try to loosen the other ones, and the come right off!! I dont' know what the hell I did to the engine, but after 4 hours, it still doesn't turn over! It's a 22RE by the way! So does this mean it's time for a newbie 3.4 swap or what!? Thanks for any input, and sorry for the slopply writing, I've been drinknig some thinking that my trucks gone for a LONG time!
Thanks again,
-Nick

Have you tried to turn the crank by hand? Put a socket on the bolt in the middle of the fan, (don't remember the right size)put a large ratchet on the socket and see if you can turn it by hand. If you can, thank the 4x4 god that it hasn't siezed. Maybe you just bent some valves. But if you can't turn it, swap time......

ha.. for some reason I drew a blank when someone told me to turn the crank by hand.. couldn't think of what the crank was. I'll have to check that out when I get home, thanks a lot!
