Places near San Diego that deal in off-road upgrades

I've been wanting to do some serious upgrades to my rig (seeing as it's tax refund season ) and can't seem to find a place near San Diego that has some experience doing this. I want to put a 2" OME lift kit with Tundra coils with a 2" body lift but nobody around here seems to work with OME. I could get some time on a frame lift and install it on my own, but seeing as I've never done this thing before I just want to do it right the first time so I don't have my suspension explode on the trails. I'd really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

My ride is a stock 2002 Tacoma 4wd Double cab shortbed TRD V6. Any input is much appreciated.

I would recommend www.protrux.net (san marcos), other people have recommended www.sdtrux.com (Mira mesa/miramar).

installation of these kits are rather simple. There's A LOT of members in SD so you should just have a "wrenchathon" and have some fellow members help you out. It's a great learning experience and you'll save a bunch of $$. Just have ppl show up at your place and provide some grub and ppl will come

Otherwise, just hit up the shops Carsten lists.

Good luck

That wrenchathon idea sounds like an idea for me since I'd like to have that sort of knowledge about my truck. I can rent the frame lift for a buck for all day, the only thing is, it's on North Island military base so I'd have to bring the person(s) on base in my own vehicle. For right now, I'm looking at doing this around the beginning of march (hopefully sooner) so if anyone out there is interested in helping me out, PM me and we'll work out the details like tools, food, etc.

Most guys would be stoked to lend a hand in exchange for some frosty brews and tasty grub. If you aren't handy with a wrench, fire up a BBQ and make sure no one gets hungry.

You may be in luck my squid friend. I am also in the Navy ( A Seabee to get specific ) but I have done all 3 of the lifts to my vehicles at NASNI auto hobby shop. I would be glad to help you out. I have done Runners and Tacos so not a big deal and you are very correct that doing the work yourself will give you a much better understanding of what it can and can not do while wheelin. Get in touch with me and we can set something up for a Sat morning at North Island.

I will also extend an invite to this Sat.'s wheelin trip out in the desert. I have never done this specific trail but it does not sound that difficult and a TRD should have no trouble at all. Check out the thread "Smuggler's Cave" in off road trip planning. THe very first thread has everything you need to know about the trip. Hope to see you there.
