ok i have a 98 taco with a 5' lift in the rear and a 3.5' in the frount (why would i do that you ask) my pitman arm hits my spring when the frount end is raised up as high as the rear. so what could i do.

1. Thats not your pitman arm, that is the upper part of your spindle
2. You need a ball joint spacer, or lower the truck, or get longer length spindles. the reason its hitting it is because you have the upper control arm pulled all the way down with your lift. that Control arm needs to be moved back up.

That im not 100% sure on. I would search around so see what you could find. btw what kind of lift did you put on, that didn't include this spacer?

You need to first understand how the IFS suspension works on your truck, and why proper geometry is crucial to the longevity of the suspension components.


What I mean is, you lift your truck too high and all your front end parts are going to be damaged, quickly. You cant go over 2.5" or so without starting to wear out parts quickly. Parts that will wear out will be your CV's and ball joints. Not cheap to replace every 3 months.

Yes, if you were able to get a ball joint spacer like Pro comp sells with their bracket lift kit, your ball joints wont touch your springs. But your CVs/boots will last about 2 days due to the extreme angle. Plus you probably wont be able to steer very well with the tie rod angles.

2 options. Lower the front to 2.5-3" and get a diff drop kit. I think Roger Brown "4crawler" sells them.

Option 2. Buy a "bracket" kit to lift your IFS 5" or so. Its going to cost at least $1000 and will require cutting your subframe, basically never going back to stock. And it wont gain you any suspension travel, just the ability to fit larger tires.

Adam is right. Anything after 2.5" (4wd) or 3" (2WD) you will need a drop bracket kit. Lifting pass 3" w/o a drop bracket kit will put your CV in a severe angle thus damaging your suspension and is unsafe on the road. Please do use a favor before you kill yourself or someone else. You other cheap option other than that will be a BL with 3" suspension.
