Moral of the story, car fires suck, do all you can to prevent it, but still be prepared for it with good extinguishers.

No one was in it, it had been prked in thet spot for about 18 hours.

Best as I can figure, rain (it was a rainy morning) shorted a connector or bare wire that then lit either plastic or dust/crud on fire before a fuse blew.

It was a factory circut, as all the aftermarket ones were still intact. (no short)

I guess your kinda lucky considering it could of been much worse...like completely engulfed.

how do you check to see that an aftermarket wire is still intact andthe factory wasnt, when the fire engulfs everything? Just curious.

I'm not sure how long it burned before I put it out, but it was less than 30 seconds from when I woke up to when it was out.

Testing the wires was easy. Put a multimeter on the source and the termination point in each circut. Test with switches in both positioms. If there is no voltage drop (or very very little there is no "short" in the wire. Also, all the fuses for my lights were intact, and everything else was on a factory circut.

Much like a bomb or an airplane crash there is much to learn from and observe/test after a fire. Because of the routing of my aux. light wires, they were not damaged by the fire and could be tested.

Plus, they worked before the battery cables were cut.

The 92 has been towed away to who knows where, but I would have loved to sell you the steering wheel and the head unit!

Were you able to strip it before it got towed away? When does the modding on the 95 start?

Lamm, its probably gone to a salvage yard. Your insurance company should know where it is and you should be able to go there to get ALL your personal equipment out of it: stereo, lift, rims, tires, clothes, etc. A fire vehicle won't bring much for the insurance comany resale sice it can't be rebuilt, so they don't mind if you clean out your own gear.

I stripped everything I wanted (bumper, optima, K&N, exhaust, cargo bok, fender flares, roof rack, lights,vent visors etc.)

Tires were on thier last legs, and the lift was crap so I didn't care.

My head unit, GPS, CB, Scanner and JDM clinometer were totally destroyed.

After my next paycheck, I will have it lifted with new tires and wheels, reinstall, roof rack and TJM and other stuff.

After that comes sliders, then all the interior stuff. I will keep everyone posted on the build up.

i wnated those rims! that is unfortunate though lamm. I pray that it doesnt happen to you again. Thank God you werent in it and nobody got hurt.

4x4Lamm, can you post me some pics of the vacumm lines that is connected to the solenoids and runs to the intake manifold, Ive took mine off and dont know which one goes where anymore. There is some sort of sensor that has three prungs and the vacumms hoses goes on there but I cant seem to make out which one goes where. If you can that'll be great!!!!!

that really sucks about your old runner 4x4Lamm, but at least: you're ok/unhurt; you found a clean new rig; you can leverage everything you learned on your old one while modding the tookus out of the new one -- building the perfect beast.

good luck with everything. looks like the 95's a great place to start!
