Pics of 97 4run to 99 4run headlight and airbox conversion

Last weekend I got ambitious and converted my headlights to the 99-02 style and converted my airbox to the 99-02 airbox with the newer style MAF. The headlights were easy to do. I bought used ones from ranchotoyotatruck (thanks for the great deal!) The buckets the housings sit in were cracked so I got both for $70! Thankfully I live only 10 mins away from his yard so I didnt have to pay shipping. The 96-98 buckets are the exact same so I just transfered the housings over and have instant upgrade!

I am putting in a HID conversion as well when my kit gets here so I will post pics when I get that done

I also did my airbox conversion since I was in work mode. Here is the link for my write up complete with rewiring instructions.

Here are a couple other pics just for good measure

Truck looks great, nice and clean.
Didnt know there was a diff. between sensors, but it's good to see you can swap them.
I head TT supra MAF's can swap in too (and are bigger) but you'd need a tune...

I thought about that but used tt supra MAF's are harder to come by. I got the whole airbox setup for $50 so that was a no brainer

Yah I would like to do that if I find a set I like. My next project after my HID kit will be working on getting a S/C for it. I'm a power whore and want the power to match the look. lol

I agree, it looks great and functions...you can't complain about that. Congrats on scoring those headlights, 35 bucks a pop is not bad at all.

yes. its 3600 recycle rd. Its on the corner of recycle and omec circle. Pm him before you go there and make sure he has what you want. Damaged stuff will usually get you a lower price

seriously, if i had a dime for every time you have posted this i could afford those tails! just giving you some crap man, my list of mods is growing exponentially every minute, i don't know when i'll have the money for these but i'm working on it.

nice looking truck though toytech, i had never heard of swapping the air boxes. i got my '99 headlights for free i know this is going to probably knock some opinion points off for me but, we got a '99 4runner in on trade at work one time and i asked my friend/manager if i could do the swap and he told me yes but if any potential owners caught that it had retro headlights i had to swap back. and guess what, it sold and no one was the wiser, but me. too bad they leak condensation like mad now, karma i guess.

About the AFM / MAF. I checked your thread on U/Y (I'm not a member there) and it seems easy enough. Do you need the later year airbox or will that MAF fit my stock 97 airbox?

Another question for you and MTL4Runner. A little background: had a p0130 code, replaced the O2 sensor, CEL came back with a 171. Reset numerous times with no fix. Cleaned MAF & reset, CEL came back at idle. My AFM is reading 2088 ohms at 71.5 deg F. From the table below it seems it should read under 2000 ohms. Dynamic test seems ok. Info from the FSM:

AIRFLOW METER RESISTANCE TABLE
Temperature Ohms
-4 F (-20 C) ............................... 10,000-20,000
32 F (0 C) ..................................... 4000-7000
68 F (20 C) .................................... 2000-3000
104 F (40 C) .................................... 900-1300
140 F (60 C) ..................................... 400-700
176 F (80 C) ..................................... 200-400
From your experience, is 100 ohms out of spec enough to be causing this code? It would appear so. My next debate is whether to change to the later model year AFM

Haha, I know man, I'll admit I have said that A LOT. I just like to suggest those to anymore who has stock tail lights, and if they're possibly looking for a tail light upgrade then I'll be there to say, "Get some LED tails!" lol.
