I am trying to purchase genuine OEM lower ball joints online for my 2000 Tacoma 4x4 2.7l, and it seems there are multiple part numbers that keep popping up. I have cross referenced the part numbers across different websites and some say they will fit my truck, others say they will not, and to make matters more confusing, some say the part has been discontinued. Can anyone shed some light on this mess!? Better yet, if anyone has recently purchased OEM lower ball joints and would like to share the part numbers it would be greatly appreciated. The sites I've been searching are toyotapartsdeal.com, camelbacktoyota.com, and toyotaonlineparts.com.

Well, I think I've arrived at the right part number: 43340-39585

On Toyotaonlineparts.com it does not designate Driver or Passenger side, but some of the other sites, like toyotaonlineparts.com, label this as the driver side ball joint. So I guess my follow up question is will this part work on both sides or is it specific to just the drivers side?

There's a different part number for the driver side LBJ and a different one for the passenger side LBJ. you might like to consider replacing the UBJs as well. You're right in choosing genuine Toyota parts for the LBJs. as these parts are safety-critical.

Thanks for the part numbers Yams, and thanks for the info KZN185W. Upper ball joints just arrived in the mail today. There was less confusion about their part number so I ordered them right away. As soon as the lowers arrive I'll get started on all four. Just from the small amount of reading/research I've done so far it seems like the uppers are going to be a pain. Any advice before I get started? I'm going to rent the 3 jaw puller, and the ball joint press setup from Orielys recommended in this thread : http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-ge...-easy-way.html

Finally finished up the uppers and lowers last night. Figured I would share a bit of my experience for anyone that might be looking to replace theirs. The lowers were a piece of cake compared with the uppers. To seperate the ubj from the uca I ended up having to rent a pickle fork. The 3 jaw puller that was recommended in other threads just wasn't catching on the arm. And when I tried hammering it out I ended up smashing the stud into a larger circumference than the hole so I had to use a grinder to hack off the top after successfully separating the joint from the uca with the fork. The pickle fork worked great, 3-4 good whacks with a small mallet and it was out. The ball joint press set up from Orielys worked great for pressing out the ubj from the spindle, but for pressing the new one in I would recommend using a piece of steel rather than the adapter. I had to make several small adjustments with the adapter during the press-in because the circumference of the adapter is just barely large enough to meet up with the ball joint.
