Question Painting stock wheels black?

I guess I'm on a painting spree, I just painted my taillights all red (which looks a million times better w/o the crappy orange), and I want to paint my stock wheels black. I would just put on rock crawlers, but I'm saving money for Downey coils. Anyhow:

Has anyone done this? What tips can you give me, how did you do it, etc? Advice is much appreciated

I just painted my aftermarket alloys, basically the same thing. I hit them real well with some sandpaper, cleaned them with paint thinner, primered them, and then painted. So Far So Good.

What grit sandpaper did you use, if you remember? Did you take them off your rig to do it? Thanks man

I painted my aluminum wheels w/ cheap flat black paint from Lowes. Only prep I did prior to painting 'em was washing the wheels.

I used 100 grit sandpaper, but I also used a paint which is kinda rough so the scratches weren't noticable. If you are going to use a paint which leaves a glossy or smooth surface use a finer grit.

I did that to my spare, no prep.
Take your fingernail to it though, and you probably won't be too impressed

I did that to some steel wheels...sanded down a couple but the other ones ended up lookin' better...I know they won't last but spray paint's cheap...I'm sure if I spent a lil more time on them, they'd last longer

I got pics, but no where to host them? In all the years of being on forums, I've never figured out the picture posting thing.

If I don't have to work tomorrow, I'm gonna paint my wheels, assuming it doesn't rain. I'll get pics of that, too.
